INTRODUCTION
How confident is your organisation that scheduled wastes are being correctly identified, labelled, stored, recorded and disposed of in accordance with Malaysian environmental requirements? Incorrect waste classification, poor storage practices, incomplete records or improper disposal can expose organisations to unnecessary environmental, operational and regulatory risks. In Malaysia, scheduled waste management is governed primarily by the Environmental Quality Act 1974 [Act 127] and the Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005. The Regulations currently list 77 scheduled waste categories, and the waste generator is responsible for correctly identifying and classifying the waste generated.
This practical 1-day programme provides participants with a structured understanding of scheduled waste management from generation and classification through packaging, labelling, storage, inventory control, transportation and final disposal. Participants will learn how to interpret SW codes, apply proper storage and segregation practices, understand the 180-day / 20-metric-tonne storage requirements, and maintain accurate waste records. The programme also introduces the current Electronic Scheduled Waste Information System (eSWIS) used by the Department of Environment for scheduled-waste information and reporting. Participants will gain practical awareness of inventory recording, consignment information, licensed transporter and facility verification, and common reporting errors. Through case studies and practical exercises, participants will develop greater confidence in managing scheduled waste consistently, supporting environmental compliance and reducing the risk of improper handling, storage and disposal.
