COURSE OVERVIEW

Are your managers and supervisors handling employee issues correctly, or are they unknowingly creating bigger employment risks for the company? When an employee raises a grievance, refuses instructions, challenges overtime payment, complains about unfair treatment or faces disciplinary action, how confident is your organisation that the matter is being handled fairly, consistently and in line with Malaysian employment law?

In today’s workplace, employment matters can no longer be managed based only on past practice, verbal instructions or common sense. Employers must understand how the Employment Act 1955, Industrial Relations Act 1967, Trade Unions Act 1959, minimum wage requirements and current workplace regulations affect daily Human Resource decisions. Recent updates involving working hours, leave entitlement, Flexible Working Arrangement, discrimination concerns, foreign worker management, workplace harassment complaints have made it even more important for companies to review their employment practices, payroll controls, policies and documentation.

In practice, many employers only realise the seriousness of an employment issue after an employee has lodged a complaint with the Labour Department, Department of Industrial Relations or other formal channels. At that stage, the organisation must be able to justify its actions with proper employment contracts, payroll records, attendance records, leave records, overtime records, warning letters, investigation notes, grievance records and evidence of fair procedure. Where documentation is weak, policies are unclear or management action is inconsistent, employers may face back-payment exposure, penalties, orders, unfair dismissal claims or further dispute escalation.

This 2-day programme is designed to help participants understand Malaysian employment law essentials, statutory obligations, workplace discipline, grievance procedures, documentation standards, labour complaint readiness and industrial relations dispute pathways. Participants will also gain practical awareness of current labour regulation trends, including workplace flexibility, gig-worker regulation, social protection and dispute-resolution mechanisms. Through case discussions, practical examples and scenario-based exercises, participants will learn how to manage employment matters more confidently, handle grievances and misconduct more consistently, and support a fairer, more compliant and harmonious workplace.
