INTRODUCTION
Could one overlooked environmental issue become tomorrow’s compliance risk, operational disruption or stakeholder concern? As organisations face growing expectations on climate action, resource efficiency, biodiversity, pollution prevention and measurable environmental performance, understanding the latest ISO 14001 requirements has become increasingly important.
ISO 14001:2026 is the fourth edition of the international Environmental Management System (EMS) standard, replacing ISO 14001:2015. While the core EMS framework and PDCA approach remain familiar, the 2026 edition provides clearer requirements, improved terminology and stronger alignment with today’s environmental priorities. It places greater attention on organisational context, environmental conditions, life-cycle perspective, leadership accountability, risk-based planning, management of change, externally provided processes and the effectiveness of environmental performance.
This one-day awareness programme provides participants with a practical overview of ISO 14001:2026 from Clauses 1 to 10, including the purpose and structure of the standard, key EMS terminology and the main requirements that organisations need to understand. Particular attention is given to the areas that have been clarified or strengthened in the 2026 edition and how these may affect existing EMS practices, responsibilities, documentation and operational controls. Through explanations, workplace examples, discussion and a transition-readiness exercise, participants will recognise the key requirements of ISO 14001:2026, understand the implications of the 2026 changes and identify areas that may require review within their organisation. The programme is suitable both for organisations already certified to ISO 14001:2015 and those seeking a current understanding of environmental management system requirements.
