COURSE OVERVIEW
Employers have a legal obligation under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1994 and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health’s (DOSH) 2017 Guidelines for Risk Assessment in the Workplace to ensure their employees’ health and safety on the job. By instituting ergonomic practices, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace. These practices reduce employees’ likelihood of exposure to hazards that might lead to illness or injury. Repetitive motion, bad posture, excessive force, prolonged sitting or standing, direct pressure, vibration, temperature extremes, noise, and stress are all inherent risks in the work.
The effectiveness of a safe work environment relies on management’s commitment to implementing the ergonomic system. Managers are responsible for creating a safe and healthy work environment by setting ergonomic goals and objectives, communicating them to employees, allocating duties to particular personnel, and keeping everyone updated on progress. However, an effective ergonomic process must include employee participation in assessments, solution development, and implementation. Employees must be made aware of and have a means of reporting safety concerns in the workplace, and they must be able to participate in the ergonomic process by providing feedback, making suggestions for mitigating risks, and assessing the outcomes of any resulting adjustments.
This program aims to educate the participants on applying knowledge about human capabilities and limitations to the design of workplaces, work methods and jobs for optimal safety, efficiency, productivity and comfort. Ergonomic issues include activity-related soft tissue diseases, back injuries, skilled jobs, and mental activity, as well as legislation in ergonomics are discussed.
