INTRODUCTION
In recent years, there has been growing concern about the health effects of chemicals. Many substances once considered safe have now been linked to chronic illnesses, including fatal cancers. While significant progress has been made in understanding chemical toxicity through disease studies and laboratory research, countless chemicals in use today still have unknown health risks. Therefore, it is crucial to handle all chemicals with care—whether their hazards are well-documented or not—to prevent long-term consequences.
This course provides an in-depth understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standard of Exposure of Chemicals Hazardous to Health) Regulations 2000 (USECHH Regulations), which establish a legal framework for controlling exposure to hazardous chemicals in the workplace. A safe working environment depends on employees being well-equipped with the knowledge and skills to prevent chemical-related accidents and illnesses. This includes adopting best practices for handling, storage, and disposal of industrial chemicals to minimize risks.
Additionally, the training will cover key steps in establishing an effective respiratory protection program and identifying relevant safety resources. Employers who use respiratory protection to reduce worker exposure to hazardous airborne contaminants must comply with all Department of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH) requirements.
Designed to enhance workplace safety, this course aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to handle chemicals safely, respond to chemical spills, and manage leakage incidents effectively. It ensures that ESH Committees, EMS Committees, ERT teams, supervisors, and employees develop strong chemical safety awareness and accident prevention capabilities.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this 1-day workshop, participants will be able to: –
√ Understand key sections of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and their role in chemical safety.
√ Comply with USECHH 2000 Regulations for safe chemical handling in the workplace.
√ Follow best practices for the procurement, storage, use, & disposal of hazardous chemicals.
√ Effectively select, use, & maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for chemical exposure.
√ Implement proper procedures for managing spills, leaks, and accidental exposures.
√ Demonstrate the correct use of emergency showers, eyewash stations, and spill kits.
√ Provide immediate first aid response for chemical burns, inhalation, and skin exposure.
√ Understand key steps in developing & maintaining a workplace respiratory protection plan.
√ Identify potential chemical reactivity hazards & apply measures to prevent incidents.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This course is ideal for ESH and EMS Committee members, ERT teams, supervisors, safety officers, lab technicians, industrial workers, and logistics personnel involved in handling hazardous chemicals. It is ideal for anyone responsible for chemical safety, emergency response, and regulatory compliance to ensure a safer and more compliant workplace.
COURSE BENEFITS
This course improves workplace safety, ensures USECHH 2000 compliance, and reduces chemical-related incidents, lowering costs and legal risks. Proper training minimizes accidents, enhances efficiency, and fosters a safety-first culture, strengthening business sustainability and reputation.
TRAINING METHODOLOGY
This course uses a blended learning approach combining interactive lectures, hands-on demonstrations, group discussions, and practical exercises. Participants will engage in case studies, role-playing scenarios, and a mock chemical spill drill to reinforce learning.
